Girls C had two games this week against St. Philomena @ St. Paul.  Although they came up short on the scoreboard, they continued to play with great effort and improve each time out.  The Allie Diaz and Ortasele Aisuan had strong defensive games for the Saxons.

Girls B played a tough game against the Lady Crusaders on Saturday.  The team continues to improve with every game, gaining the experience and skill needed to be successful in the future. The girls played amazing defense throughout the game and truly gave it their all.

Girls Varsity had an impressive showing at the Cantwell Tournament.  They defeated Notre Dame 29-25 in overtime.  And then in the 3rd place game against St. Paul, the Lady Saxons were down by 2 with 13 seconds left in the second overtime.  After a timeout, the girls ran the inbounds play to perfection with Diana delivering a perfect pass to Dannielle who shot a 3 pointer with time running out to give the Lady Saxons a 33-32 victory over St. Paul.  The girls have played amazingly well this season, improving with each passing day and showing outstanding teamwork.

The Lady Saxons followed up their 3rd place finish in the Cantwell Tournament, with a dominating win over St. Odilia this past Sunday.  The girls played outstanding offense with every player scoring.  The Lady Saxons are currently undefeated in league play with a number 1 overall ranking.

Girls C Basketball had two games this week, losing a tough battle to St. Jerome and then beating St. Mark.  The strong all-around play of Brianna Furch stood out for the Saxons.

Boys B Basketball lost to St. Jerome on Saturday.  Adrian Alavez and Muneeb Mujahid played well for the Saxons.

• Girls C played a hard fought game last Friday at St. Jerome.  The girls showed a lot of heart and played with great energy throughout the contest.  The team improved greatly as the game went on, learning and gaining a better understanding of the game.  With such an outstanding ability to improve in the game, this C team shows a lot of promise.
• Girls B started the season with a win against St. Anastasia, in an intense game that was close throughout.  The girls earned the hard fought victory by playing outstanding defense.  Melissa A. gave the Lady Saxons the lead early in the game and Emily P. scored the game winning basket for the team in the closing minute.
• Girls Varsity showed their dominance on the court with two very impressive victories to start the season.  On Saturday, the Lady Saxons defeated Transfiguration 44 – 12 and then followed up that performance with a 28 – 9 victory on Sunday against St. Mark.  Outstanding teamwork on offense and intense pressure defense led to such a wide margin of victory for the Lady Saxons who are looking to make the playoffs again this season.
• Boys B began their season with a game against St. Philomena.  Although the team fell short on the scoreboard, they played with great effort and enthusiasm.  Adrian Alavez and Muneeb Mujahid stood out for the Saxons.
• Boys Varsity got their league season off to a strong start with a victory over Good Shepherd.  Strong team defense and the outside shooting of Christian Apanecatl were the keys to victory.

Girls Varsity Basketball began their season with the St. Jerome tournament this weekend.  After losing close games in pool play to St. Anastasia and Notre Dame, the team rallied to defeat St. Jerome with a late comeback and advance to the semi-finals.  Although they lost again to St. Anastasia in another tight contest they showed that they have a chance for a very successful season.  For her excellent all-around play throughout all the games, Alejandra Lopez was named to the All-Tournament team.

Below is a summary of the general practice and game schedule for all our Winter CYO sports teams.  Varsity is for 7^th & 8^th graders, “B” is for 5^th & 6^th graders, and “C” is for 3^rd & 4^th graders. If you would like to participate, please complete and return the registration form posted below along with your $80 sports fee to the school office.  The fee covers the cost of uniforms, equipment, referees, tournaments, facility fees, and other expenses related to the sports program.  Please return the registration form as soon as possible so arrangements can be made if we have enough players to form two teams at certain levels.

Payment and a completed form must be received prior to the start of the second week of practice.  Failure to do so will result in the student not being allowed to participate until the form and fee are received.

Any email addresses provided will receive the Saxon Sports Memo, a weekly email sent out to recap the previous week’s results and preview the upcoming week’s schedule.  It will include all practices, games and directions for the upcoming week’s events as well as contact information for all the coaches.

Note: If you already receive the memo, you do not need to include your email address.

The Saxons Sports website (www.saxonsonline.com) will also be used as another venue to distribute schedules and information concerning the program.  All content emailed each week will also be posted to the website.  Also available at the website is the Saxon Sports Policy Manual which details the general rules and regulations associated with the sports program.  By submitting the sign up form for after school sports, you acknowledge that the parent/guardian and student have read and are familiar with its contents.

Any help the parents can provide is greatly appreciated.  We are always looking for drivers, team moms, etc.  Without your help, the program does not run as smoothly.  Please contribute in whatever way you can.

If you are able to drive, you must provide a copy of your license and insurance to the school office.  The school copier will be made available to any parent who needs it for this purpose.

Girls C Volleyball finished their season in thrilling fashion on Friday.  In the first game against St. Paul they came up just short, falling in the third game.  Then against St. Anastasia, again in the third game, a key hit by Genesis and the game winning serve by Brianna made the difference in the Saxon victory.  Congratulations to all the girls on a great season. They all improved greatly during the year and I look forward to seeing them continue to grow in their years ahead at St. Augustine.

C Football Season wrap-up from Coach Steven:

The “C” Saxons Football team finished their amazing season with a thrilling 13-6 victory over St. John.  The team finishes the season with a very impressive 8-1 record, the best that any “C” football team from St. Augustine has ever done.  Strong leadership from a very talented 4th grade class which include: David, Mariano, K.C., Emiliano B., Aidan, Chance, and Isae; and amazing improvement from 2nd and 3rd graders: Emiliano S., Kyle, Gregory, Jared, Matthew, and Julian.  The Saxons showed amazing teamwork all season long, running the offensive plays to perfection, while putting amazing pressure against opposing teams on defense.  With such talented players who are always ready to play, learn, and have fun; St. Augustine Football has a bright future indeed.  Thank you for all the parents and those who supported the team all season long, this amazing season could not have happened without all of your support and dedication to our team.  I am very proud of this team.  This season has truly been a joy to coach, and I wish all our 4th graders the best, as the will be moving on to the next level to join the “B” team next season.  Thank you everyone for sharing this amazing season with us.
