Easter Break Track Practice & First Meet

Varsity, B & C Track
  • Wed 4/3: Practice 9 AM – 11 AM
  • Fri 4/5: Practice 9 Am – 11 AM
  • Sun. 4/7: FIYA Track Meet at Serra H.S. 12 PM.  Arrive by 11 AM.
The meet should last about 4-5 hours, although you don’t necessarily need to be there until the end depending on what events your child participates in. Admission fee is $5 for Adults (9th grade and above) and no charge for students (8th grade and below) whether they are participating or not. Serra H.S. is located at 14830 S. Van Ness Ave, Gardena 90249. 405 S to 105 E. Exit Crenshaw. Turn left on 120th St. Turn right on Crenshaw. Turn left on Marine. School is on corner of Marine and Van Ness, enter parking lot off of Marine.

Note: The email last week said practice would be Thursday but I forgot about a prior commitment I have.

The Lady Saxons varsity basketball team finished their FIYA regular season in a way strong, with a 28-22 win against New West last Wednesday and then went on to defeat Lou Dantzler Middle School 42-4.  Amazing pressure defense and great ball movement on offense are a big reason why St. Augustine has been do dominating this season.  Faith N’duti and Diana Caamal led the way on offense while Alejandra Lopez anchored the defense.  The girls have now made it to the FIYA playoffs and are 2 games away from possibly playing at the Staples Center once again.

The Lady Saxons “B” basketball team won in the first round of the playoffs this past Saturday, defeating St. Jerome 16-12.  With great full-court pressure defense and relentless shooting on offense, it is no surprise that the girls “B” team are one of the favorites to win the championship this season.  The girls move on to the second round of playoffs and will play against St. Paul this coming Saturday.

The Lady Saxons continued their winning ways with a 32-24 win against ICEF Inglewood last week.  Great ball movement and strong pressure defense led to the win.  The girls continue to improve as the playoffs approaches closer.

The Girls “B” basketball team had an impressive 32-4 win this past Saturday against America Martyrs.  A very balanced offense with amazing ball movement created many scoring opportunities for the team as they continue to improve with each passing game.  The girls have played great defense all season long holding many of their opponents to less than 10 points a game.  The Lady Saxons “B” team are strong contenders for the championship this season.

  • Boys Varsity finished their season with a hard fought game against St. Sebastian on Saturday. Although we came up short in the end, the team played with great effort and determination as they have all season. Special thanks to 8th graders Brad Villacis, Max Mahan, and Kevin La for all your hard work throughout the years and for all you have contributed tot he Saxon Sports program.

The Lady Saxons varsity team played a tough game against Culver Middle but came up short this past Friday   The girls however recovered quickly with a big 26-3 win against Visitation on Saturday to take first place in league play.  Although there have been many strong Lady Saxon teams in the past, this is the first league championship for St. Augustine girls basketball since 2005.  The team has finished their regular season with an undefeated record and will be moving on to the CYO playoffs this coming weekend, as the Pac-10 league champions.

The Lady Saxon B team played an amazing game against St. Jerome this past Saturday defeating the Spartans 19-5.  Amazing pressure defense led by 6th grader Isabella Lopez and 5th grader Lauren Wade; as well as great team offense led by 6th graders Angela Caamal and Toni  Andrade resulted in a dominating girls b team victory.  The Lady Saxon B team continues to improve with each passing day and are quickly becoming contenders for the league championship.

The Lady Saxons Varsity continued their amazing season with a 27-17 win over the St. Mark Lions this past Tuesday.  They then went on to defeat St. Anthony 36-6 on Thursday.  Aggressive team defense and strong play from post players Isabella Sanchez and Breanna Ortiz helped in the Lady Saxon victories.

Boys Varsity played a tough game against St. Timothy. The game was close throughout but despite excellent effort from all we couldn’t quite get over the top. Excellent defense from Adrian Alavez played a key role in keeping the game close.

The Lady Saxons “B” basketball team played St. Paul to a very close game this past Saturday.  Although the girls lost, they played extremely well and continue to improve with each passing day.

The Lady Saxons Varsity basketball team defeated Wilders 28-20, this past Friday to improve to 2-0 in the FIYA leage and then went on to play in the Cantwell High School Tournament, defeating Sacred Heart 18-8. They were then were victorious against Holy Angels with a score of 28-20.  8th grader Diana Caamal was named to the All Tournament Team for her outstanding play during the tournament.

Boys Varsity played their second league game on Sunday against Notre Dame, and despite coming up short the boys competed well. Max Mahan stood out for his exceptional effort and continued rapid improvement.
